Motions:
I recommend that the School Board approve the
FY06-07 Student Progression Plan in compliance with the provisions
of House Bill 7087 and Florida State Statutes 1008.25 effective
September 7, 2006. |

Minutes: The 2006 Legislature passed House Bill
7087/A++ Act, which put into place secondary school reform. The
House Bill changes include: Course requirements for entering sixth
graders for promotion from middle school to high school.
Requirement of a career and education planning course in seventh
or eighth grade resulting in the completion of a personalized
career and education plan. Requirement of four credits in a major
area of interest to graduate from high school. Weighting of dual
enrollment courses for students entering grade nine in FY06-07.
Termination of school enrollment prior to graduation with an exit
interview. Modification of the Academic Improvement Plan Process.
Additional changes to the Student Progression Plan include:
Alignment of Exceptional Student Education language to state
statutes and School Board Policies Change of name of Limited
English Proficient students to English Language Learners. Dr.
Robinson questioned the maximum age limit for attendance. Board
Members discussed the following topics: A++ Plan; Adult Education;
drop-out rate; Progress Monitoring Plan; IDEA; English Language
Learner; FCAT; lowering expectations on the NRT; providing
information to principals that programs are available; Online
Assessment; career night; and computer labs. Mrs. Burdick
requested clarification regarding transition services for disabled
students. |
